Orthopaedic Nursery Workshop

Back in April this year we had yet another community collaborative opportunity.

This time to present a workshop to the preschool children at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital Nursery.

I decided to volunteer for this as it is massively out of my comfort zone, for reasons I'll explain as we go along....

We arrived and set up three tables on those tiny seats and tables you may remember from your own childhood!

We had a collage table, a painting table and a drawing table.

I was surprised at my decision to go with the paint table!

Working with paint on tiny tables and chairs with children and there very expressive and exuberant ways, alongside my sensory issues, worries about waste, wipes and excessive paint use, I can tell you my gumption really was put to the test!

However with the support of my Designs in Mind colleagues Rosie and Bill and alongside the capable nursery staff, it ended up being a lot of fun!

Children have such an pure outlook and enthusiastic approach to art. I am quite speedy at producing pieces of art, yet I've never seen such a production line of work! Around 15 to 20 little ones must of produced over 100 pieces in the time we were there!

Some of the pictures produced by the children

The designs they created will be chosen by our staff and added to a collaborative design of the children's art and Designs in Mind members. These will all be added to sculpture of hands making a heart shape. The sculpture will be a feature in the grounds of the Orthopaedic.

This wonderful thing of working alongside the children, whose parents work at the orthopaedic is yet another example of Designs in Mind ongoing involvement in Oswestry and it's surrounding communities.

Yet another project were very proud to be part of.

We shall be sure to share more on this sculpture project once its installed.

We'd like to take this opportunity to thank the orthopaedic, their staff plus the nursery staff and the children who took part.

Watch this space for an update and pictures of the sculpture later this year.
